VULTURES 1 is also at number one on the Apple and iTunes charts.
With the record VULTURES 1, Kanye West, together with Ty Dolla $ign, briefly made it to the top of Spotify’s top artists less than a week after its release. With first place, West also briefly replaced pop singer Taylor Swift for a day. After Ty Dolla $ign, she slipped into third place among the daily top artists worldwide. However, in the February 11 list, Swift overtook again and took the top spot.
But that’s not all: VULTURES 1 made it to first place on the global Apple and iTunes charts. The record was independently produced and was not initially available on Spotify and YouTube.
Lots of escapades before the album release
The latest West record was already controversial before its release because, among other things, the original artwork on the cover resembled the right-wing extremist band Burzum. In addition, West has repeatedly attracted attention in recent months for anti-Semitic statements and insisted on joking about the topic in the song “Vultures”. In one line he sings translated: “How can I be anti-Semitic when I just fucked a Jewish bitch.”
And rock musician Ozzy Osbourne also made it clear that he did not want to be associated with the rapper. West wanted to use a sample of the Black Sabbath song “Iron Man” for the song “Carnival,” even though Osbourne had explicitly forbidden him from using it. When the 46-year-old defied the ban, the British singer called him an anti-Semite in a statement. “Carnival” is currently (as of February 14, 3:35 p.m.) the most frequently played song worldwide on Spotify and Apple Music.
More VULTURE albums are to follow
VULTURE 2 and VULTURE 3 are also reportedly scheduled to release on March 8, 2024 and April 5, 2024.
