Ushma Olava’s sketch character originated from imitation.
Last Saturday, Ushma Olava showed her skills on the live broadcast of the Putous program. Olava, who appeared in Putous for the first time, opened her feelings to Iltalehte immediately after the episode.
Olava said that she was moved and surprised by how many of her loved ones sent congratulatory messages before the broadcast.
– The atmosphere is really relieved. Even this first episode has been built and tensioned since August. Really relieved and a good feeling, says Olava.
– And quite sweaty, he adds with a laugh.

The first broadcast of the 15th production season of Putus went without any major problems. However, Olava reveals that she herself had to deal with a small word mistake during the broadcast.
– Instead of little Kankunen, I got this word mistake little cake, which is always funny. We have been practicing these things for a whole week and then… Well, a person is a person and of course a small mistake doesn’t hurt anything. Yes, everything went pretty much as planned, and you can always make all the fun out of mistakes, Olava sums up.
Gimmel to win?
Ushma Olava burst into the public’s consciousness in 2002 from the band Gimmel. The group broke up in 2004, after which Olava went to pursue her career dreams as an actress.
Olava does not think that a career as Gimmel’s singer would be especially beneficial in winning a sketch character competition, for example. Olava has developed a Mursu character for the sketch character competition.
– I think that our fans at that time are now almost in their thirties. It may be that the walrus appeals to younger people who have no memories of Gimmel. You never know, there can be a kind of nostalgic empathy, he reflects.

Olava describes Mursu as an empowered, divorced woman who is “on the threshold of a new life”. In this matter, Mursu and Olava themselves have nothing in common.
– I’ve been married for almost 20 years, so this is not about my own life, Olava laughs.
Imitations for video
The character started last summer, when Olava’s task was to send an introduction video of himself and his skills to Putous’ work group. In the video, you also had to show your own impersonation skills. Olava is not very proud of her own performance.
– I had a really bad Vesa-Matti Loiri imitation. I thought to secure the situation by doing a quick and fast walrus imitation, because the walrus was here in the village at the time. I did a really good walrus imitation, I turned around on the shore of the cottage next to the boat.
– Then it happened so unluckily that the walrus died the following week and unfortunately the great and beloved artist Vesa-Matti Loiri died at the end of the summer.

Fall instructor Antti Tuomas Heikkinen however, I liked the walrus character developed by Olava, as a result of which the imitation was refined to a sketch character.
But are there, for example, song samples from the walrus during the coming season? Olava is not quite sure about this, but the single walrus certainly has other adventures ahead
– Let’s see, the walrus might have some kind of preoccupation with a single woman, he concludes.
