Cyclist Nils Politt has replaced his team colleague Lennard Kämna as time trial champion at the German road championships in the Black Forest.
A few days before the start of the Tour de France, the driver from the top team Bora-hansgrohe proved his good form. The 29-year-old German champion won the individual time trial on the 32.5-kilometer course between Donaueschingen and Bad Dürrheim with a time of 38.52 minutes and eleven seconds ahead of Miguel Heidemann and 15 seconds over Maximilian Schachmann in third place.
The result is disappointing for the previous time trial champion Kämna, who only finished ninth. Kämna crossed the finish line 45 seconds after Politt. On Sunday, the man from Cologne can defend his title as German champion in addition to his first time trial success in a road race.
Kröger fastest driver
Mieke Kröger won the women’s time trial as the fastest rider. The 29-year-old won almost a second ahead of Katharina Fox, Clara Koppenburg was the third-best time trialist. Bielefeld’s Kröger won the title for the second time. Antonia Niedermaier and Moritz Kretschy won the U23 editions.
The road race for the cyclists is on Saturday. On Sunday, the men will start the 215-kilometer course at 11:30 a.m. in Donaueschingen. After five hours, the pros are expected at the finish line in Bad Dürrheim. The race will be broadcast live on SWR and in the SWR web stream.
