– Stop War! Better fight in sports. #Stay With Ukraine
That’s how the superstar read Kamil Stochin in the hills when a man jumped in Lahti on Sunday in a World Cup race. The Polish was 11th in the results.
After the race, Stoch told Yle about his opinion of the war in Ukraine on a live TV broadcast.
– We can’t just pretend nothing is happening because the war is going on. People are suffering. We can’t just close our eyes to it and do nothing.
Stoch believes that sport should set an example for everyone around the world.
– There is no room for violence or war in sport. We should send a message that we respect and support each other more.
The Polish hopes that sports competitions will continue even after the war in Ukraine.
– I think sports are the purest and most beautiful fight together. Fight against yourself and your opponent. Sports is the answer, Stoch said.
– I stay with Ukraine! the man shouted at the end of the interview.
