Traffic jam, chaos and more traffic jam! After a sewer damage on Kaiserdamm, drivers in Berlin-Charlottenburg face a long stretch of frustration. Because: The east-west connection is expected to be blocked for months.
The Kaiserdamm becomes a dam! The construction site between Suarezstraße and Sophie-Charlotten-Straße is causing a lot of trouble. The ground is currently being examined here. Only after the expert opinion can the planning for the repair work begin.
The six-lane main road in this area should be closed for at least six months.
A resident on BZ: “The Kaiserdamm is the main traffic tangent to Mitte. It’s pure chaos. All the streets around are packed.”
Driver Michael Sawinski (74, graphic designer from Grünau) is also frustrated: “I don’t know what to say about that. The barrier is incredibly restrictive, the whole area is very restricted.” Sawinski: “I’ll probably have to look for another way in the future. But there will definitely be traffic jams there too.”
Background: On April 27, an underpass for a sewer that runs under the subway broke. There was sagging. The U2 subway line is not affected.
