Kai Havertz has had to watch Arsenal FC for several months. But that will soon come to an end. The national player is fit again.

Kai Havertz is about to return to Arsenal. Coach Mikel Arteta firmly expects the offensive player to be deployed soon – and has high hopes for the German international.

Havertz has been out since knee surgery in August. Last season, the 26-year-old was Arsenal’s top scorer in the Premier League with nine goals – despite several months out due to a thigh injury. Arteta said Havertz was “pretty close” to playing in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Arteta: “I think it’s just a matter of days, not weeks.” The coach continued: “Let’s see how he reacts to the stress. But he is a player we miss very much, a player who takes the team into another dimension. So I’m very happy that he will be back soon.”

It’s probably too early for the league game against Brighton tomorrow, Saturday. As soon as Havertz is fit, he is likely to duel with new signing Viktor Gyökeres – signed for more than 70 million euros – and Gabriel Jesus for the central role in the attack. Jesus played his first game in almost a year against Palace.
