Luxury department store operator KaDeWe Group was attacked by a Russian hacker group last week.
The attackers are said to be the hacker group ‘Play’ from Russia. The attack was averted by existing security and warning systems as well as immediate precautionary measures, the KaDeWe Group announced on Monday. The police and the data protection authority were called in and criminal charges were filed.
The immediate protective measures were able to contain the effects of the attack. There is no evidence that personal account details, payments or passwords from customers’ online accounts are affected. Operations and purchases with card payments in luxury department stores and online stores were safe at all times. The KaDeWe Group’s IT systems were put into offline emergency mode over the weekend.
“According to the current status of the investigation, we are able to narrow down the affected area of the IT infrastructure. “Not least for investigative reasons, we cannot yet make any statement as to whether and to what extent data has been stolen within the affected area,” the statement says.
The attack took place on the night of November 2nd, 2023 to November 3rd, 2023. The hacker group has previously attacked companies such as the Neue Züricher Zeitung or a service provider for the Swiss federal administration.
