Recently, BTS performed at the Grammy Awards and made a cameo appearance at the Oscars. In their native South Korea, however, harsh reality seems to await the boy band. As has now become known, the band members have to do their military service.
South Korea’s ambassador to Britain had announced that the band’s members, all aged between 23 and 29, would be drafted into the military for over a year. It is not yet known exactly when they will have to start their service. It is clear that the internationally successful group will have to take a forced break once they move in.
Due to the ongoing tense situation with neighboring North Korea, there is an 18-month compulsory military service in South Korea for men between the ages of 18 and 28. A law passed in 2020 allowed band members to temporarily defer their military service.
Unfortunately, the band didn’t win the award for best group performance at the Grammy Awards.
