JYP is buzzing – Mikko Viitanen is out

JYP won’t make the playoffs this season either.

Mikko Viitanen will not continue as sports manager of the ice hockey SM league club JYP after this season, reports Central Finland.

JYP has only three matches left in the season, and the club misses the playoffs for the fourth time in a row.

This season of JYP in particular has been colored by commotion. The season included, among other things Jukka Rautakorvin head coach firings and star player Sami Nikun departure. There have also been reports of cross bets within the club.

Viitanen, an ex-pakki who won two Finnish championships in his playing career, started as JYP’s director of sports during the 2019–20 season. The season in question ended due to coronavirus restrictions, so JYP never made it to the playoffs during Viitanen’s era.

According to Keskisuomainen, JYP has also signed a player contract with Pelicans’ 25-year-old center forward By Nate Schnarr with. Schnarr has scored 46 power points in the 48 games he has played for the Pelicans.
