JVG film focuses on VilleGalle’s pain in public and forgets another star

The JVG film contains interesting revelations about the successful years of rappers, but the authors have not dared to brazenly grasp them. The result is a visually interesting documentary that in some places overlooks one of the main stars.

The Lions’ World Cup gold festival culminated in the Helsinki Market Square in 2011. At that time, the JVG, still unknown to the general public, performed in the same club. Jare and VilleGalle.

The duo’s hit hit At the wedding winged the duo on a journey lacking ups and downs. Now, a full-length documentary has been made for almost ten years JVG Movie: Years have been a breezewhich seeks to open up what really happened behind the scenes.

This is a director-screenwriter Miika Särmäkarin as well as an instructor Taito Kawatan the first full-length film. Särmäkari has previously worked as the editor-in-chief of Basso Media and, in his own words, has followed JVG’s career very closely from the very beginning. Kawata, in turn, has directed in the past Hypertensionshort film.

The documentary follows a very traditional plot structure. Let’s start with how the duo met each other and how the small locker rooms in the ice rinks turned into the back rooms of the gig venues. After that, popularity will lead to future problems and pressures for success.

Memories of the duo are shared by the duo’s numerous artist friends such as JunoWet Simo (Siim Liivik), Saint and Ghetto. Amidst the praise of friends, the promotion manager brings a refreshing perspective to the documentary Inka Laitinen an interview that reveals how JVG got in pain while looking for new hit songs.

At some points, the authors could have considered in more detail which interviews are relevant to the plot.

Just a big name like Jare Tiihonenwhich is also seen in the documentary, can of course be an attractive choice for marketing, but when the content is thin, there is no added value.

The most interesting content in the document is VilleGalle’s relationship Jonahbrother known as Mäk Gälis. As popularity rises, Joonas refuses to be overshadowed by his big brother and eventually the situation almost escalates into a wrestling match recorded on a video camera.

The JVG film has been able to utilize video material accumulated over a period of ten years. The visual output is not limited to video clips shot from the concert stages, but the viewer can also see conflict situations.

In the case of VilleGalle, in addition to the brotherhood, burnout and the bad side of the damp artist’s life stand out. Instead of stopping the documentary to go through the matter, the authors seemed in a hurry to rush forward already. However, these are the most important points in the document from which all power should be taken.

Sadly, the documentary also stumbles on the fact that it puts VilleGalle’s experience at the center and forgets Jare in places. The viewer is given a picture of Jare, who has experienced no internal contradiction in terms of publicity and has mysteriously endured everything, while VilleGalle has visited the ditch and spring.

However, the JVG film doesn’t dampen to build any mythical hero story from the rap duo, but the authors would have had the opportunity to delve even further into the delicious details.

In their first work, Särmäkari and Kawata show that they master visual and storytelling. In the future, however, a small increase in “arrogance” towards the interviewees will not be a bad thing.
