The Bianconeri are moving for the Monza goalkeeper, who grew up at Inter but is attracted to the court of their historic rivals
Juventus is thinking of Michele Di Gregorio and aims to anticipate the competition for the Monza goalkeeper who should make the leap to a big club next summer. His performance also in this second season in Serie A has been important so far (11 clean sheets) and the Lady has started to work on it in a concrete way despite knowing that she has two valuable goalkeepers in Szczesny and Perin, both over 30 (the Pole is one born in 1990, the former Genoa born in 1992). The former Inter player is flattered by the Bianconeri’s courtship and, even though he grew up in the Nerazzurri youth system with Handanovic as his idol, he could never say no to the opportunity to wear the Bianconeri shirt and go and fight to win.
perspectives

In 2020 Di Gregorio went on loan to Monza who, having achieved promotion to Serie A in 2022, saw the redemption obligation set at 4 million materialize. Now the Brianza club values its goalkeeper five times as much, which is what Tottenham spent to get Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli. The CEO Galliani, thanks to the excellent performance so far from the number 16, keeps the bar high both because Inter has retained a percentage of the future resale and because next summer more than one Italian club could be looking for a goalkeeper. At the same time, however, Di Gregorio feels he is ready to make an important leap in his career: he is convinced that Monza will give him a hand and will not put a spoke in his wheels. As happened last summer with Carlos Augusto, who moved to Inter. Pay attention, therefore, to what could happen in the coming months on the Turin-Monza axis.
hierarchies

Szczesny and Perin both offer undoubted guarantees, but Di Gregorio is 7 years younger than the former and 5 years younger than the latter. Juve’s choice, therefore, would also be from a future perspective because Michele is considered a goalkeeper who can return to the national team. Already in the next call-ups in March or after the European Championship? We’ll see… Certainly no one at Continassa has the will to set aside Szczesny, who is playing yet another important season of his career and whose contract expires in June 2025: the Pole could renew it for a year, following the example of some teammates which lowered the salary. However, if this does not happen, it cannot be ruled out that he will change shirt, especially in the presence of an interesting offer that would allow the club to save the 6.5 million net salary. In short, in 2024-25 Di Gregorio could follow the same apprenticeship path behind Szczesny that the Pole did when he arrived in Turin and Buffon was still wearing the Juventus shirt. Or he could take the starting shirt and have an assistant like Perin behind him, who in recent years has been more than just a “number 12”. What is certain is that Juventus has at least one reinforcement for the midfield as a priority on the market (Koopmeiners is the first target) and that to get their hands on Di Gregorio, they need to monetize the departure of one of Szczesny or Perin.
competition
—
Juve is not the only club following Di Gregorio. The Milanese goalkeeper is also in the sights of Napoli, if Meret leaves, and of Roma, even if the investment seems very expensive for the Giallorossi club. Inter also like him but they have their backs covered with Sommer and, despite the excellent feeling established with Monza and the percentage on the resale that has been guaranteed, at the moment they are not in a position to spend on an assistant to the Swiss. There remain the foreign teams, especially the Premier League, who have seen him at work. Juventus have excellent relations with Monza after last year’s loans of Nicolò Rovella and Filippo Ranocchia. It cannot be ruled out that a technical counterpart is included in the operation or that an alternative formula to the outright purchase is evaluated. In the meantime, the “message” sent to Di Gregorio arrived loud and clear. And he did not remain indifferent to the Lady’s charm.
