Juve, Weah out, Allegri studies the alternatives

Without the former Lille player, initial choices and rotations become thinner, but the coach has a good range of remedies in his squad. Especially by varying the game plan

Livia Taglioli

The puzzle is starting to get challenging. Even for those who, like Allegri, have already amply demonstrated that they have imagination and surprise moves in their power. Danilo, Alex Sandro, De Sciglio, as well as Fagioli and Pogba: to the already long list of those unavailable – due to injuries or suspensions – was added the fresh knockout of Weah, one of those who had made 10 appearances in 10 matches, even if only on one occasion for 90 minutes. Allegri was in fact modulating his insertion gradually, using him 5 times from the start and 5 as a substitute, for a total of 411 minutes so far. It goes without saying that Juve is now in full emergency, and that the blanket is increasingly shorter, leaving the coach with fewer and fewer possible combinations both in the initial choices and in the rotations.

in midfield

If the defense has previously demonstrated that it has absorbed the absences without any shocks, now it is the midfield that has to show similar resistance… to impacts. If the move to place Cambiaso in Weah’s favorite position would seem the most painless from a tactical point of view, it is not necessarily the best. McKennie could therefore come back into play, who on the right has already passed repeated exams, but who with Fagioli’s disqualification had been called back to different tasks. With this solution the “hole” would therefore move to the heart of the midfield, to the right of Locatelli. Unless the formation is also changed, going from the much-loved (and tried and tested) 3-5-2 to the 3-4-1-2, if not to a 4-3-3 with the greatest unknowns.

the range of possibilities

In the first case, Miretti (or Yildiz) could find space behind the attackers, in the other, Chiesa would be the one to widen the trident but it would probably involve the return of Danilo, with Cambiaso in the defense quarter on the left. In any case, the emergency should last another two weeks at most: in addition to the recovery of Danilo, who cannot be ruled out for Fiorentina, Alex Sandro could be available for Cagliari the following week, while Weah is for returning immediately after the break.
