Juve, Calvo-Allegri meeting: from the transfer market to the new director, the points

A brief discussion between the technician and the general manager to think about the near future

“The new sporting director? I am the coach, at the end of the season the club will tell me what they have decided”. Max Allegri thus unmarked himself, in the press conference, after the match of Juventus-Lecce. Reiterating, however, that there is “a working group that defended itself in the face of difficulties, keeping all the objectives open. And I think it’s also thanks to Federico Cherubini who was by my side, we’re working together with the goal of getting to the end and getting the best out of it”. In reality, the coach is much more familiar with the sporting directors question, considering that John Elkann – immediately after the resignation of the old board chaired by Andrea Agnelli – indicated him as a point of reference for the club’s sports area, effectively consolidating his position as manager that as a technician. Plans for the future will start talking soon, a matter of hours rather than days. With Francesco Calvo, head of the sports area for a few months, already working to untie the first big knots.

FIRST MANEUVERS

Cherubini’s operations are limited due to the inhibition he will have to serve until the whole of next season: in the summer he could be relocated but there is the concrete possibility that the manager decides to take a step back. In recent months, relations with the prosecutors have been maintained by Giovanni Manna, former head of Next Gen, who would be the first candidate for the role of sports director of the first team in the event of an internal solution. The other names are known: Cristiano Giuntoli (who, however, must free himself from Naples), Frederic Massara (although Milan is already working on the renewal), Giovanni Rossi (who has already worked in the past with Allegri, but is considered untouchable at Sassuolo) and Andrea Berta (more nuanced than a few weeks ago but not yet to be removed from the list). The definition of the new sports director begins to be a priority to avoid delays on the roadmap with the times imposed by the market: with or without the Champions League – which “is the crucial point”, admitted Max Allegri a few days ago – there is doubt forces today to work on two parallel lines, so as to be ready for any scenario. The green light has come from the owners to start the Juventus relaunch plan, starting with the definition of leadership roles: time is running out, the future can no longer wait.
