Justice: Two shooters active in Maria shooting in Campislaan Assen

According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), two Assen residents actually shot during the mass shooting in the Lariks residential area in Assen. The 24-year-old victim suffered five gunshot wounds and was seriously injured and taken to the hospital in Groningen.

This became known during the first preliminary hearing on this case. Two of the seven suspects were on trial today. Their case has not yet been substantively dealt with. The men aged 28 and 31 from Assen did not shoot, but were seen with a weapon by witnesses. The pre-trial detention of these two was extended by the judge today. The possible shooters, two Assen residents aged 21 and 27, must appear in court on January 16. Even then the case will not be dealt with substantively.

The incident happened on October 4 last year in broad daylight on Maria in Campislaan. “Nearby a school and a petting zoo. Under the eye of local residents, two groups attacked each other with different weapons,” the public prosecutor said. The young people approached each other in different vehicles. The vehicles and their occupants were traced based on witness statements, the prosecutor outlined. Ultimately, there are seven suspects, four of whom are still in custody.

According to the victim, he was shot at by the 31-year-old Assenaar. No gunpowder residue was found on the man’s body or clothing. This was the case with the pair who will appear in court later this month. The man in his thirties would like to go home, he told the judge today. He is afraid of losing his home if he remains stuck for longer. The judge finds the case too serious and the suspect’s personal interests not serious enough to send him home.

In the coming period, witnesses will be heard by the examining magistrate. It is not yet known when all cases will be substantively dealt with.
