Justice takes almost 2 tons from cannabis growers in Ruinerwold and Steenwijk

Two cannabis growers have to hand in the profits they made from their cannabis farms in warehouses in Ruinerwold and Steenwijk. This amounts to almost two tons per person.

The police raided a warehouse in Ruinerwold in February 2020. 1,278 used pots with hemp residue were found there. Afterwards, a cannabis nursery was also discovered in a warehouse on an industrial estate in Steenwijk.

In the criminal case, a 42-year-old and a 50-year-old man were previously given suspended prison sentences and community service. A third suspect was also involved in one or both warehouses. Initially, the Public Prosecution Service assumed a total criminal profit of 490,000 euros, to be divided among these three men.

However, this third man was talking about 1,278 plants per harvest and not 600 plants, as the Public Prosecution Service initially assumed. That is why the Public Prosecution Service arrived at a profit of 959,000 euros at the hearing in September.

The court’s calculations were lower because one of the cultivation areas was started much later. The Zwolle judges arrive at a total criminal profit of more than 581,000 euros, to be divided by the three people involved. The two men who stood trial in September must each pay more than 193,000 euros.
