Justice demands juvenile detention for gross violence by two teenagers

According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), a 15-year-old boy from Assen has committed serious violent crimes, including a home robbery in Vlaardingen and Assen-East. The residents were beaten, tied up and robbed. One year of juvenile detention has been demanded against him, the maximum for a child under the age of 16, and in addition juvenile detention.

A 17-year-old co-perpetrator of the home robbery in Assen was sentenced to two years in juvenile detention for his part, nine months of which were suspended. He was on probation for three months in prison, which he should now also serve. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the young people were extremely violent. In addition to the home robbery in Assen, the eldest was also guilty of attempted manslaughter on September 5 of last year in Assen.

After an argument at the summer fair, the boy shot an 18-year-old teenager from Beilen in the stomach. The victim was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The Public Prosecution Service accused the 15-year-old Assenaar of two home burglaries in Sleen and Hoogeveen, last July. The inhabitants of Hoogeveen were on vacation when their house was turned upside down. The boy is also said to have committed a street robbery on May 6 on Einthovenstraat in Assen, where he used a gun.

A 15-year-old boy should be busy with school, sports, dating and side jobs, said a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service. “These are activities of a completely different order”. It is not yet known when a ruling will be made.
