Justice and FIOD investigate ‘irregularities’ at construction company BAM International

The Public Prosecution Service and the Fiscal Intelligence and Investigation Service (FIOD) have launched an investigation into ‘possible irregularities’ in several completed BAM International projects. They also raided the company’s headquarters in Gouda on Friday. The construction company writes this in a letter on Monday morning declaration.

BAM International is the foreign division of the Dutch construction company of the same name. It is not known exactly which projects are involved and what kind of irregularities the judicial authorities are looking for. In the statement, BAM wrote that it would “fully cooperate” with the investigation. The listed company last year employed more than 15,500 employees and made a profit of 17 million euros, on a turnover of 7.3 billion euros.

BAM is one of the largest construction groups in the Netherlands and was involved in, among other things, the renovation of the Afsluitdijk. BAM International was responsible for the construction and infrastructure projects that were carried out outside Western Europe. Because BAM ran into financial difficulties in recent years, the company decided in 2020 not to take on any more assignments outside Western Europe. The company now focuses on the markets of the Netherlands, Ireland and the United Kingdom, where the competitive position is better. All BAM International projects have now been completed.
