“Skipper can I sail over, yes or no?” Every Zoetermeer knows this rhyme, but did you know that not so far from Zoetermeer you can actually cross the Ommedijkse Watering with a ferry?

Because what could be more fun than crossing the water with a ferry? The wind in your hair, the sun reflecting on the water and the shore on the other side that is getting closer and closer. This is the Netherlands at its best, isn’t it?

Ferry near Zoetermeer

In the summer we can not only enjoy all that Dutch water, but also a snack and drink in the sun. On the terrace a tapas here and a bitterball there. That’s all good, but every pound goes through the mouth. How can you compensate for that? Well, for example by walking or cycling to a ferry!

Ferries in Zoeterwoude and Bleiswijk

From Zoetermeer, for example, you can go to the pedestrian ferry that transports you across the Ommedijkse Watering, from the Zoeterwoude Geerweg and the Zoeterwoude Blankaardpolder. If you go from the Dorpsstraat to the ferry cycling, you are on the road for 24 minutes. Also nice: you don’t pay anything for a ferry crossing! The ferry is available almost all year round, except from March 15 to June 15.

Another ferry near Zoetermeer is the one in the direction of the Rottemeren. Pontje ‘t Verlaat sails between restaurant Het Meerenbos on the Bleiswijkse side to the other side in Zevenhuizen. There is no timetable and the ferry does not operate in bad weather. A crossing costs 0.50 euro cents.
