An absolute disaster for the public broadcaster: 600,000 euros have just been invested in a travel series with Theo Maassen. “What will happen to that series now?” asks Tina Nijkamp.
There are serious indications that Theo Maassen has committed domestic violence. Both weekly magazine Privé and Yvonne Coldeweijer have very incriminating chat conversations with his wife Joyce. He can easily be removed from the presentation of VPRO’s Zomergasten, but now it appears that there is another TV project with him.
New Theo show
Tina Nijkamp has discovered that Theo has also been busy with a new travel series, entitled Der Theo. “It was recorded last year and he is still working on it. That series is about Germany. It seems to me a kind of route TV-like program, a bit of a docuseries,” says the former SBS boss in the podcast Tina’s TV Update.
What is that series about? “About how the Germans are better at everything than us Dutch. Theo then travels through Germany in search of German culture. It is for NPO 1, that’s for sure, and it is probably for BNNVARA and not for the VPRO. Of course, that is yet another presenter for BNNVARA that has something to do with it.”
Paul, Matthijs, Khalid
BNNVARA already has enough to worry about after the misconduct of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, Khalid Kasem and Paul de Leeuw. “And now Theo Maassen. Well, I’m very curious to see what will happen to that series and whether VPRO or BNNVARA will even want to broadcast it on NPO 1.”
Theo is being spared for the time being by Zomergasten broadcaster VPRO. “But whether BNNVARA thinks the same about it… And what does the NPO think about it? Of course, that series is also very expensive. I think it cost about five or six tons, so it is something new now: what will happen to that series?”
