‘Just like Winston in huge dip’

The TV careers of Jan Versteegh and Winston Gerschtanowitz are in dire straits now that their quizzes Lingo and 50/50 have moved to the small Net5. “Why are they doing this? What is the goal?”

There are a lot of victims this season on the eve of the Talpa channels. Jan Versteegh and Winston Gerschtanowitz have moved with their quizzes Lingo and 50/50 from SBS 6 to Net5 to make way for the new reality program Een Jaar Van Je Leven. The consequence? All three programs are a flop.

Jan and Winston flop

Where the SBS 6 title De Reis Van Je Leven reached 178 thousand viewers (5.9 percent market share) yesterday evening around half past six, 50/50 (7:30 pm) and Lingo (8:00 pm) scored 171 thousand and 194 thousand viewers respectively ( both 4 percent) on Net5. All three are very poor scores.

Tina Nijkamp, who has been the channel boss of SBS 6 for years, sympathizes with Jan and Winston. “The presentation careers of both Winston and Jan are in an enormous dip. Even a full-page ad in this week’s Privé cannot prevent their quizzes’ ratings consistently being below or around 200,000 viewers.” she says.

Truly a mystery

The programs also score poorly among young viewers, Tina knows. “It remains a mystery why the ‘young hip’ women’s channel Net5 started broadcasting this and whether they really thought this was going to score. Why are they doing this? What is the goal? And besides: why did Jan and Winston say yes to this?”

Tina would never have done this to the gentlemen if she had still been the broadcaster. “In terms of image, brand and market share, this all seems quite disadvantageous to both the broadcaster and presenters…”

SBS 6 most worrisome

Most eyes are on flagship SBS 6. “In terms of eve, the scores for SBS6 look the most worrisome,” she says, pointing to the scores of One Year Of Your Life, Long Live The Love and HLF8. “All well below channel average. And so that hurts, also in the wallet.”

She continues: “Funnily enough, the by far cheapest program (about 3,500 euros I’m guessing) scores the best: 12.1 percent market share for the purchased Dream House in the Countryside. The other three programs are at least ten times more expensive per episode. Hopefully for SBS 6 the ratings pick up quickly.”
