Just like last year, title holder SVBO will get a second chance at the Protos Weering Indoor Football Tournament

SVBO ended up in second place in its group. The team from Barger-Oosterveld can still qualify as the sixth team for the final next Saturday in a so-called intermediate round.

The near elimination of SVBO was not the only surprise of the semi-final. The Asser LTC and Gramsbergen made a big impression as the winners of their group. However, Hoogeveen (sun) made the most impression, last year’s finalist, which won all its matches with ease. HZVV and Noordscheschut also reached the final with some difficulty.

The second-placed teams Raptim, Germanicus, Valthermond, FC Meppel and therefore also SVBO will have another chance on Wednesday evening in the Angelslo sports hall in Emmen to join the five teams that have already reached the final day.

Tension to cut

Whether SVBO can repeat the same trick of the last edition of the Protos Weering Indoor Football Tournament by winning the final round as the winner of the intermediate round is an open question. In group C in Sporthal Activum in Hoogeveen the tension was palpable. The teams hardly conceded anything to each other. Although SVBO won against the later group winner Noordscheschut (3-2) and ZZVV (3-1), they lost against CSVC and did not get further than a 0-0 draw against VKW. Noordscheschut only became group winner in the last match thanks to a 5-1 win over ZZVV.

Hoogeveen (sun) proved in the De Eendracht sports hall in Zwartmeer that it is the big favorite for the overall victory. DZOH was easily put aside 3-0, Drenthina 3-1, Sellingen 5-0 and FC Meppel 4-0.

Intermediate round

However, indoor football fans can first focus on the undoubtedly exciting intermediate round. One wonders whether SVBO will repeat the same trick from last year, or whether the opposition from Raptim, Germancus, Valthermond and FC Meppel will be too great this year. We’ll know more in a few days.

In any case, chairman Jasper Stroeve of the PWZ tournament is looking forward to both the intermediate round and the final. “The seeded teams have shown that they are an asset for the final. I am already sure that it will be very exciting on Wednesday during the intermediate round. We are very satisfied, because in addition to the sporting aspect, the social aspect is very good this year. There are no excesses and there is plenty of enjoyment in every room.”
