Just before the tour: Alaphilippe returns

Two-time road cycling world champion Julian Alaphilippe returns to racing nine weeks after his bad crash at the Liège-Bastogne-Liège classic. The 30-year-old from Team Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl will compete in the French road racing championships on Sunday.

Alaphilippe suffered a fractured shoulder blade, two broken ribs and a lung injury at the end of April. Whether he will also compete in the Tour de France (from July 1st) after his comeback is still open. At the weekend, Alaphilippe has to cover 241.7 km on a course that starts and finishes in Cholet near Nantes.

Alaphilippe won the mountain jersey in the Tour of France in 2018, and the all-rounder finished fifth in 2019. In the last four years he has won at least one stage at the Tour, which starts in Copenhagen this season.
