Just a quick detour: Boaz Bridge in Meppel is still largely out of service this year

The Boaz Bridge in the center of Meppel will remain impassable for most of this year. It is expected that work will start in the fourth quarter of this year.

The top of this wooden bridge collapsed in February last year due to wood rot. A passerby fell, but after an examination in the hospital it turned out that there was ‘no reason for medical care’.

Since the end of May last year, pedestrians and cyclists have no longer been able to cross the canal via the bridge, after the bridge deck was removed. This means boats can enter and exit the canal. Cyclists and pedestrians have to cross a bridge to get to the other side of the water.

The municipality is currently conducting research into how the bridge can be repaired, or whether it needs to be replaced completely. The municipality has allocated 900,000 euros for the replacement of the bridge.
