Jurre’s double life: world-class DJ and fifth-class football player

On one day you travel the world as half of the well-known DJ duo Firebeatz and on the other day you play in the fifth division for the small Loosdrecht football club OSO. This is what life looks like for 35-year-old Jurre van Doeselaar.

He has only just returned from a tour through Asia and Australia and is already on the field for the training of the first of OSO. The Loosdrecht football club is one of the smallest in the region. The difference between playing stomping EDM (Electronic Dance Music) for thousands of people around the world and playing as a midfielder in the fifth division could hardly be greater. But that contrast is something beautiful for Jurre.

The day after training, he flies on again for a series of performances in the United States. Due to his busy tour schedule, it is not always possible to attend all competitions and training sessions. But if he succeeds, he wants to be there anyway. “It’s a moment to clear my head. That also gives you creativity.”

Corona crisis

But that schedule looked quite different not so long ago due to the corona crisis. Touring was no longer possible, but in other respects it was also a ‘blessing in disguise’ for Jurre.

This allowed him to spend more time in the studio and on the football field. “I was able to make much more music and experiment, but also train more. I am now ready for the new season with our new team.” Most importantly, he was suddenly able to spend a lot more time with his newborn daughter Maxie and his wife.

The upcoming tours are also a great time for Firebeatz to test new music. “We can see what works and what doesn’t during the new shows,” he explains. “You have to stay relevant and adapt in your own way. There’s a whole new generation, so it’s very exciting in that respect.”

Traditionally

And now that the new season is just around the corner and touring can take place again, the schedule is as usual. But if you ask Jurre to release a little more: a good drop for a few thousand men or decide the game in injury time, the choice is quickly made. “It’s very different, but then I go for the drop. It’s such a beautiful feeling when so many men are all in ecstasy is an indescribable feeling.”
