Jürgen Klinsmann took over the job as national coach in South Korea just a year ago. However, his end is already sealed.
Jürgen Klinsmann was fired as South Korea national coach. “The Korean Times” and the Yonhap news agency report this unanimously. The Korean Football Association (KFA) has already informed Klinsmann about the end.
There is said to have been a two and a half hour meeting between the German, association president Chung Mong-gyu and other senior executives.
Klinsmann: “Keep fighting”
Jürgen Klinsmann also posted a photo of the players on Instagram on Friday morning and wrote: “To all players, my coaching team and all Korean football fans with sincere gratitude! Thank you for all your support that got us to the semi-finals of the Asian Cup and a incredible journey over the last 12 months without losing 13 games in a row before the semi-finals.”
Behind it, the 59-year-old wrote: “Keep fighting.” Klinsmann and his team surprisingly failed in the semi-finals of the Asian Championship against Jordan (0-2). In the end, Qatar won the competition. Criticism of Klinsmann arose following his elimination from the Asian Cup.
On Thursday, Hwangbo Kwan from the Korean Association’s National Team Committee said: “We agree that Klinsmann cannot fulfill his role as head coach of the national team for various reasons and that a change in leadership is necessary.”
Klinsmann wasn’t the national coach in South Korea for too long. He took over the job in February last year and played 17 games on the sidelines. The former national coach (2004 to 2006) was able to score an average of 1.88 points per game.
