Jamaican sprint medalists Jura Levy and O’Shane Bailey competed in Jyväskylä on Wednesday.
The thermometer on the Harju athletics field showed 17 degrees on Wednesday, but on the Jamaican sprint medalist list On Jura Levy was cold after the 100 meter sprint at the Jyväskylä GP race.
– It’s so cold. I’m not used to this – not even though this is my second time in Finland, commented Levy, who competed in the 200 meters at the Espoo GP race last season.
The Jamaican arrived in Central Finland the night before Wednesday.
– The sun sets unbelievably late and it’s really bright at night. How is this possible? It’s really hard to sleep.
Levy, 32, was involved in the 2017 World Championships in London when Jamaica won bronze in the 4x100m relay. He rushed the opening leg in the relay final. At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Levy got relay silver, but at that time he only participated in the heats.
– Wonderful memories when I was able to run for my country. I’m trying to get back into the team.

In recent years, Levy’s career has been on the decline. In Jyväskylä, he was only third (11.58). Lotta Kemppinen won (11.43).
– I am in Europe on a competition tour to be ready for the Jamaican championships. The only goal is to make it to the Olympics in 2024. That’s what I’m training for and I’m here.

The most meritorious athlete of the Jyväskylä GP race was the world champion of the relay O’Shane Bailey33. He won the 100 meters on Wednesday in 10.28.
– Pretty good run. I’m thankful I won, Bailey said.
The man was in Finland for the first time.
– I want new experiences. I love this atmosphere here, the Jamaican said and said that he was surprised by the Finnish weather.
– I thought it was really cold here. But the weather wasn’t quite that cold, the Caribbean man added.
Bailey achieved his World Championship gold at the Moscow Games in 2013, when he ran in the relay team in the heat. The man had no business in the final.
– It was my first year as a professional and I immediately got a gold medal. Usain Bolt was a great role model.
Bailey says that he suffered from two severe hamstring injuries in the 2010s.
– I’m making a comeback, because I’ve been healthy for about a year. Last season was the best of my career. My number one goal is to get from the Jamaican championships to the national team and the World Championships in Budapest.
Bailey’s record in the hundred came last season (10.03). So far this season, it has gone a tenth slower at best.
