Oriol Junqueras, president of ERC, traveled to Madrid this Tuesday to coincide with a very important event: the debate on the reform of the regulations of the Congress of Deputies that will allow the use “without limitations” Catalan, Basque and Galician. In front of the statues of the Lions of the Lower House, while he was sometimes interrupted by shouts of support or criticism from some pedestrians, the ‘former vice president’ has assumed that there will be an amnesty on the ‘procés’ as part of the negotiation to that his party and Junts support the investiture of Pedro Sánchez.
“We are convinced that the amnesty, like the use of Catalan, is already part of the agreement that we signed by the Congress Board,” said the Republican leader, referring to the pact that made possible the election of Francina Armengol as president of the camera. That agreement, Junqueras recalled, already spoke of the “commitment” of the “State with the end of the repression related to 1-O against the independence movement through the necessary legal channels.” And among those avenues is the amnesty, argued Junqueras, who has asked the PSOE “not to take the negotiation to the limit.”

After the certain failure of Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s investiture at the end of September, Sánchez will have two months of time to seek his re-election. If he does not succeed, there will be a repeat election. But Junqueras has shown signs of believing in the possibilities of the pact.
In any case, it has not been the negotiation with the PSOE, carried out until now with great discretion, that has brought the president of ERC to Madrid, but the transcendental Plenary Session in Congress. There, the approval will be given to take into consideration the reform that allows the use of co-official languages, while the final approval will take place on Thursday. “Today is a historic day,” Junqueras celebrated. For the first time, millions of people will feel represented in their own language.
