Geiger has no chance – 95 meters means 41st place
Vinzenz Geiger, who already has problems with the inrun track and loses valuable speed by touching the plastic edge, experienced a fiasco. The individual Olympic champion jumped to 95 meters and will start the race in 41st place in the afternoon, more than four minutes behind. Eric Frenzel (33./104.5 meters/+ 3.04 minutes) was also literally pushed to the ground.
Despite the difficult conditions, the jury didn’t react and rushed the Nordic athletes off the hill.
Ryzek and Riessle are angry
In addition to Faißt, Julian Schmid (10./120.5 meters/ + 1:26 minutes) also has a chance of a good placement from a German perspective. Everyone else is already too far behind. Johannes Rydzek (24./114.0 m/ + 2:20 minutes) and Fabian Rießle (29./108 meters/ + 2:45 minutes), who had even better conditions but could not manage a clean jump, should be annoyed.
Another disappointment for Weber
For Terence Weber, however, the dilemma continued. Since he was in quarantine at the Olympics and must have felt like he was on the sidelines as a forerunner in Beijing, things have stopped working. A meager 107 meters also means a place at the back of the field after the jumping on Sunday (37th).
Battle for the overall World Cup
Johannes Lamparter (Austrian) and Jarl Magnus Riiber fight for the overall World Cup. After the jump, it looks as if Riiber could further reduce his deficit. Lamparter is only 14th – 1:38 minutes behind jump winner Seidel.
In addition to the overall victory, Riiber has another record in mind: With 46 victories in the World Cup, he is only two victories behind Hannu Manninen’s record in the all-time list of the best. If number 47 is to be added today, the Norwegian will bring extremely fresh legs.
Final in Schonach at home
After Oslo, the combined athletes are looking forward to a home game on 12./13. March in Schonach.
