Jumbo-Visma success again in Tour: Laporte wins 19th stage | Cycling

Immediately at the start a leading group got away, including Taco van der Hoorn. However, the riders again had to stop briefly because of a demonstration. The peloton had to squeeze the brakes after about 30 kilometers in the nineteenth stage from Castelnau-Magnoac to Cahors. Smoke from smoke bombs could be seen along the road.

The leading group of five riders was urged by the organization to stop. After the peloton had approached the escapees, they were again allowed to leave. The peloton then waited for about a minute and a half and was then able to resume the ride.

Attack Pogacar

In the end Van der Hoorn was left with three refugees: Matej Mohoric, Mikkel Honoré and Quinn Simmons. The peloton almost got them (8 seconds), but the cat and mouse game between the peloton and the escapees was won by the front runners at that moment. For a moment, then, on the only ‘climb’ of the day, Simmons shot away on his own. The hill broke up the peloton, causing Fabio Jakobsen to miss the battle.

Tadej Pogacar meanwhile had a puncture, but was able to return without losing time. The climbs and fans had pulled the peloton apart. Lone fighter Simmons was also caught up when Pogacar suddenly made an attack. However, the Slovenian was quickly caught up again.

Desperation Offensive

The ride seemed – as previously thought – to turn into a bunch sprint. A desperate offensive by the trio of Fred Wright, Jasper Stuyven and Alexis Gougeard seemed to be successful, they kept around 30 seconds on the approaching peloton, where the sprint trains were still hard to find. At 12 kilometers before the finish, there was still no question of an organized hunt.

With 5 kilometers to go, the difference was only 10 seconds. With 2 kilometers to go, the three were still there, with only a few seconds left… they didn’t make it. Laporte did, who sprinted everyone out of the wheel and took a beautiful victory.
