Jumbo-Visma goes with Vingegaard again for Tour victory, Pogacar gets Yates and Majka | Cycling

The Dutch cycling team Jumbo-Visma has officially announced the selection for the Tour de France. The team has no surprises. The Dane Jonas Vingegaard is the leader. He won the Tour de France last year.

The names of the seven other riders were also known earlier. They are Wilco Kelderman, Dylan van Baarle, the American Sepp Kuss, the Frenchman Christophe Laporte and the Belgians Wout van Aert, Tiesj Benoot and Nathan van Hooydonck.

Van Baarle will be dressed in red-white-blue in starting place Bilbao on Saturday. He became Dutch road champion in Sittard-Geleen on Sunday.

‘We dream big’

,,With six stage victories, the polka dot jersey and above all the green and yellow jersey, we exceeded our wildest expectations last year. We are dreaming big this year too. It is our ambition to bring the yellow back to Paris,” says sporting director Merijn Zeeman.

,,We have a super strong team led by our leader Jonas Vingegaard and we believe in the plan we have made. Winning the Giro this season was a dream of ours. Our riders are fully prepared to achieve a double blow in the Tour.”

Pogacar

Two-time winner Tadej Pogacar will receive support from Briton Adam Yates and Pool Rafal Majka in the upcoming Tour de France. UAE Team Emirates will also take the Italian Matteo Trentin, the Dane Mikkel Bjerg, the Austrian Felix Grossschartner, the Norwegian Vegard Stake Laengen and the Spaniard Marc Soler.

Tim Wellens is not there as expected. The Belgian has not recovered sufficiently from his broken collarbone in the Tour of Flanders.

“As a team we have worked very hard towards the Tour,” said Pogacar, who had to leave the overall victory to Vingegaard after his victories in 2020 and 2021 last year. ,,Everything is as it should be, we have a very good group. We will face some serious competitors, but that is always the case in the biggest competitions.”
