Supermarket chain Jumbo will stop sponsoring motorsport and will critically review motorsport sponsorship. The AD reports this on Tuesday. It was precisely because of the sponsorship of motorsport teams that the company was discredited last year. Frits van Eerd, who has retired, was arrested in a money laundering case, which also revolves around sponsorship contracts in motorsport.
During the presentation of the annual figures, Ton van Veen, Van Eerd’s temporary successor, according to the newspaper indicated that motorsport at Jumbo has come into a ‘special light’.
According to Van Veen, this has consequences for sponsorship in motorsport. They don’t want to continue with that. They will also look at their activities in motorsport in the same critical way. The contract with Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is an exception to this,
