Supermarket chain Jumbo is immediately recalling a festive stollen because excessive levels of aflatoxin and ochratoxin A were found on the pistachio nuts in the stollen. If someone ingests too many of those mold toxins, it can be harmful to their health in the long term.

This concerns the La Place Luxury Small Party Stollen with Amarena Cherry, Pistachio & Hazelnuts of 400 grams with an expiry date of March 6, 2024 and March 12, 2024. Jumbo asks customers not to eat the stollen and to return the product to one of the stores. They will then get their money back.

Aflatoxin and ochratoxin A are mold toxins that can occur naturally on grains, nuts and legumes, among others. If ingested in large quantities, the substances can cause liver and kidney damage or, in the worst case, even cancer.
