Jumbo distribution center free again after blockage in the evening

Jumbo’s distribution center in Beilen was blocked tonight. Dozens of people gathered at the roundabout in front of the center, trucks were unable to enter or leave the site.

The exit of the A28 to Beilen was no longer accessible. Trucks got stuck there. Most people left around midnight, the authorities had insisted.

Mayor Bijl: ‘No choice’

Acting Mayor Cees Bijl of Midden-Drenthe had no choice but to end the protest again, he said. “I see this as a continuation of the farmers’ action that ended this morning. They have made their point, we should not repeat this daily. The Jumbo distribution center has been unreachable for 29 hours, we also have to think about the food supply,” he said.

“In addition, the A28 started to silt again and it seems that besides farmers there was also a somewhat different composition among the protesters. I have yet to get the analysis of that, but the fact that there were few tractors at tonight’s action is perhaps a clue.” So that brings you to the point of public order and safety, according to Bijl.

Because as many tractors as earlier in the day, there were not to be seen tonight. Earlier today, many people left with tractors that had blocked the distribution center since Monday morning. The farmers involved mainly protested against the cabinet’s nitrogen plans.
