Cyclist Julius van den Berg failed to keep the polka dot jersey in the Tour of Spain. In the fourth stage, Joan Bou took the lead in the mountains classification.

The Spaniard was the first to reach the Puerto de Opakua in the Basque Country. That was good for five mountain points and with that he took the mountain jersey from Van den Berg.

In any case, it was a tough day for Van den Berg in the Vuelta, because when there was still about 62 kilometers to go, the Purmerend-born cyclist had to release from the peloton. The stage was won by Primoz Roglic who took the leader’s jersey at the same time. Jetse Bol finished 84th in 5 minutes and 58 seconds. Van den Berg was 174th and gave 18 minutes and 39 seconds to the winner.

Amerongse Berg

On Friday, the Vuelta in the Netherlands started with a team time trial in Utrecht. On Saturday, the North Hollander conquered the polka dot jersey by being the first to surface on the Amerongse Berg. Van den Berg also held on to that jersey in the third stage from Breda to Breda, but today it was done with the ‘mountain king’.
