Cyclist Julius van den Berg will appear at the start of the Dutch National Time Trial Championship in Drenthe on Wednesday. “Tom Dumoulin is the big favorite, but if I have a good day, I can drive for a podium place,” Van den Berg is realistic.
“It is difficult to say what the form is like, because after the Giro I took a rest and did not race. On the other hand, I did make good training sessions,” said Van den Berg. In addition to the National Time Trial Championships, he will also participate in the road race on Friday.
Giro d’Italia and Vuelta?
The cyclist, who was born in Purmerend, rode the Giro d’Italia this year. “I suffered a lot. We suffered from food poisoning within the team and two boys did not make it to the finish. I also suffered from it myself, but I did finish the Giro. It was quite changeable.”
After the Dutch Championships, he will ride the Tour of Wallonia and a number of smaller one-day races. After that, the plan is now to start in August in the Vuelta. “That still depends on the form by then.” In 2020 he also drove the Vuelta.
