Table penultimate in LaLiga
The Spanish first division club Deportivo Alavés presented a new coach in Julio Velázquez eight games before the end of the season. The 40-year-old will initially train the table penultimate until the end of the season, according to a club announcement on Tuesday. Velázquez was last without a club, having coached the Portuguese club CS Marítimo between March and November last year.
In addition to previous positions at FC Villarreal and Real Betis, the Spaniard also has experience from Serie A: In 2018 he was briefly on the sidelines for Udinese Calcio. “We trust in his experience and wish him the best of luck for this final stage of the season,” said Deportivo Alavés, referring to the new personnel.

The team is currently six points behind the saving place in the table, 17th. Velázquez is Alavés’ third manager in a year, after José Luis Mendilibar and Javier Calleja. Mendilibar was relieved of his duties on Monday after around four months in office. The Spaniard averaged 0.58 points from twelve games.
