Julie Vanloo leaves Montpellier for Turkish Galatasaray

Julie Vanloo worked last season at the French Montpellier, which is trained by Valéry Demory, the former national coach of the Belgian Cats. This summer she extended her contract for two years. However, the move to Turkey now follows. “It was not an easy decision, because Montpellier is close to my heart. Still, I had to take this step,” Julie wrote on her Instagram.

Vanloo averaged 11.4 points and 5.6 assists in the French championship last season. In the EuroCup she averaged 9 points and 8.2 assists. Montpellier was eliminated in the eighth finals by Galatasaray, which now becomes Vanloo’s new club. (Read more below the tweet.)

Belgian Cats

Deerlijkse shone with the Belgian Cats at the European Championships in June. The Belgian basketball women won their first trophy there. With an average of 16.2 points, 3.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds, Vanloo was included in the best five of the tournament, alongside teammates Emma Meesseman and Julie Allemand.

Today, the Belgian basketball women have gained a place in the new world ranking of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and are now sixth.

After Emma Meesseman (Fenerbache Istanbul) and Hind Ben Abdelkader (Galatasaray), Julie Vanloo becomes the third Belgian in the Turkish KBSL. And that will create sparks, because next season Meesseman and Vanloo will face each other in the Turkish derby.
