Julian Sands, the British “Warlock” actor, who has been missing since January 2023 while hiking in the mountains and whose human remains were found on June 26, spoke in his last interview about the “dangers of mountaineering”. He spoke to the British news outlet “Radio Times” Late 2022, it has now been released days after his death was confirmed.
Julian Sands on the dangers and “scary” sides of mountaineering
Julian Sands spoke in his last interview about “dangerous” mountaineering and described climbing as “comfort and a kind of existentialist self-denial, but also as self-affirmation”. He added, “If you can handle dangerous mountains, you can certainly handle life as an actor – the two complement each other quite well.”
Speaking about his hiking experience, he also told the Newsoutlet: “I’ve seen scary things in the mountains – when you know you’re in a place where a lot of people lost their lives. You can be confronted with human remains and it can be scary.”
“Great nature reveals itself in all its power”
Describing the experience as “hypernatural,” he went on to say, “You are in the presence of great nature, and great nature reveals itself in all its power. This can take us across a threshold of hypersensitivity into a realm of natural forces.”
In the interview, Sands dismissed claims that he was too old to climb, but said friends who used to accompany him had quit in part because of age. He also pointed out that climate change has made certain rock faces more unstable.
