In a hypothetical musing about where Julia Roberts’ co-star characters would be today, the actress told “CBS Morning” that the “Pretty Woman” character Edward would certainly be deceased by now. The businessman played by Richard Gere would have died of a heart attack. At the time of creation in 1990, Edward was around 40. Her own character, Vivian, a high-class prostitute, was doing quite well:
“I believe he passed away peacefully in his sleep of a heart attack, smiling. And now she runs his business.”
“Nothing Hill” character Anna Scott retired
In contrast, Roberts speculates that Gere’s character Ike in the 1999 film “Runway Bride” is still alive today. He is also in a relationship with the character she plays, Maggie Carpenter. The protagonists of “Nothing Hill” would also have continued a more romantic life. The famous actress Anna Scott is still married to the bookstore owner Will, played by Hugh Grant:
“She is retired. She has six children and has surprisingly maintained her waist size. And yes… he still runs the bookstore. And now there’s a little knitting shop next to the bookstore that she runs.”
Roberts can currently be seen in the psychological thriller “Leave The World Behind” alongside her fellow actors Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke and Kevin Bacon. In it, Roberts, in the role of Amanda, moves into a remote house on Long Island with Clay to vacation. After a power outage, the threat to their family grows and the protagonists have to think through their next step.
