Jule Niemeier fails in the round of 16 in Linz

Tennis player Jule Niemeier was eliminated in the round of 16 at the WTA tournament in Linz.

The 23-year-old from Dortmund lost in the round of the top 16 to eighth seeded Anastasia Potapova 5:7, 6:3, 3:6.

This means that Niemeier, number 71 in the world, is still waiting for her first quarter-final entry this year. At the Australian Open last month, she was eliminated in the first round by world number one Iga Swiatek.

Anna-Lena Friedsam and Eva Lys are now the last Germans in the tournament in Linz. Friedsam advanced to the round of 16 on Wednesday after a 6: 2, 6: 4 against former French Open finalist Sara Errani (Italy), Lys had Kamilla Rakhimova on Tuesday with 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 5) conquered.
