Laura Siegemund

No surprise in London: Laura Siegemund was eliminated in the round of 16 at the WTA tournament at Queen’s Club.

The experienced Metzinger had no chance against second-seeded Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova (USA) at 1:6, 3:6. Siegemund, who made it to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last year, appeared to be in poor health on the London lawn. The 38-year-old could be heard coughing several times.

Another highlight match awaits Siegemund in London. In the doubles on Thursday, she will face Victoria Mboko alongside Leylah Fernandez (Canada) and the 44-year-old tennis icon Serena Williams, who celebrated a successful comeback in the first round of the doubles competition on Tuesday after an almost four-year break from competition. From a German perspective, only Tatjana Maria is still in the singles tournament. The sensational winner at Queen’s Club from last year fought her way through qualification to the round of 16. The hardest possible task awaits Jelena Rybakina, second in the world rankings, on Thursday.
