In the midst of rumors that periodically place him on the verge of leaving the Government, Santiago Caputo chose social networks to make a declaration of loyalty as emotional as it is calculated. On his X account, the presidential advisor published a message that, without naming him, had a single recipient: Javier Milei.
“Exactly three years ago a friend interrupted a very important event in what would be the most important process of his life to come accompany me to say goodbye to my father. The tweet did not need clarification, but the story behind it has a name and date. In June 2023, Rodis Recalt reconstructed in NEWS the exact moment to which Caputo alludes: When his father, Claudio Caputo – former president of the College of Notaries of the City of Buenos Aires – died, the then presidential candidate had a scheduled meeting with Santiago and had to cancel. He notified him by WhatsApp. Milei’s response was laconic and forceful: “Where are you?” When Caputo told her he was at home with his family, Milei responded: “I’m going there.” And it was.
That gesture, according to Recalt’s reconstruction, sealed a friendship that had already been building since Ramiro Marra—Caputo’s high school classmate at the Manuel Belgrano school in Belgrano—brought him closer to the libertarian leader. Caputo, political scientist, former collaborator of Jaime Durán Barba’s teams and consultant with experience in several countries in the region, became one of the voices that Milei listened to the most.
