Artist Juhani Palmu, 77, again received nasty news about his health when he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his bladder. The artist’s wife Leila Palmu56, says the cancer was already on the suspect list before the investigations.
– Juhan has had pain, especially in the supine position. Because of this, dreams have fallen short at times for both him and me.
Although the discovery was sad, Leila sighed deeply with a little relief.
– Juhan’s life is not being taken away in this light, at least not immediately, because according to the doctor, the cancer does not seem to be aggressive.
Palm’s investigations are also ongoing.
– Her lymph nodes are being examined even more closely. However, that department undeniably brings to mind a great deal of concern. From now on, the cancer will also be monitored regularly and measures will be taken if necessary.
– However, the situation is challenging in many ways, as urine must be catheterized four times a day, for example. Indispensable help here is home care, for which we are very grateful.
Tough ordeals
The diagnosis of cancer is not the first, as Juhani Palmu has previously found a tumor in the bladder and tube as well as the prostate. The artist herself is currently in a nursing home for a few days.
– He’s always there for a little while because I get a little break from his care. Such an arrangement has been good for us.
– Juhan also still has varying degrees of pain. However, efforts have been made to find suitable medication for them.

The artist has also had a headwind in other ways. After an accident in March last year, he had to amputate the fingers of his left hand due to burns. In addition, his left leg was amputated above the knee. The burns were caused by the fire in the air mattress of Palm’s electric bed. Fortunately for the artist, there were close friends who were able to save him from the flames. However, Palm’s condition was very serious and his heart stopped twice during treatment.
The palm was also involved in a very serious accident less than five years ago, which forced him to have his nine toes amputated due to burns. A newspaper lit up by a candle at that time caught fire in Palm’s pants at the couple’s previous home.
The war worries

Born in Lithuania, Leila says she was shocked to follow the events in Ukraine after Russia invaded the country.
– Like many others, I have been really anxious, the whole situation feels unreal. I cannot understand why Russia is doing this and killing people.
He says he is relieved that both Lithuania and the other Baltic countries belong to NATO.
– It is a great fortune, the situation would be much more worrying at the moment without being a member of NATO.
Leila still has many relatives and friends in Lithuania, including her sister and brother.
– They have had in their minds both the clashes in history and the current war in Ukraine. At the same time, it is clear that the atmosphere is apea. They also say it is a great fortune that the country belongs to NATO.
He has a clear view of Finland’s possible NATO membership.
– Finland should have submitted the application a long time ago, the time would be no later than now. Russia’s insane leader is not content with this, there will be great security concerns in the future.
– It is also really sad that such leaders come to power at all, and history has given too many gruesome examples.
