“On February 20, a judicial investigation was opened against ‘X’. At this stage, no arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing on the basis of letters rogatory,” said Dunkirk prosecutor Sébastien Piève.
According to the first indications, the victim was born in 1989 in Iraq. The investigation must now reveal the motive for the violence, but according to the public prosecutor, it could have been a settlement with a smuggler.
The man “was shot in the head in the early hours of February 14” at the camp. “He was found seriously injured by another person who called for help and was then taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead,” said Piève. Several witnesses were questioned, including a man claiming to be the victim’s brother.
