Judge must rule again on solitary confinement Anders Breivik (44) | Abroad

Anders Behring Breivik (44) will be heard again in January about the terms of his prison sentence. The Norwegian justice department announced this.

The mass murderer has been locked up for eleven years, separated from other inmates. That isolation violates the European Convention of Human Rights, his lawyer complained in August. In 2016, Breivik already sued the state about his detention conditions. Then he lost.

“The issue of his detention conditions has been under investigation for several years now,” said his lawyer Øystein Storrvik. “But he continues to be held in solitary confinement and the more time passes, the more this is a violation of the human rights convention.” The new trial will take place from January 8 to 12 in Oslo.

Disguised as a cop

On July 22, 2011, Breivik, disguised as a police officer, killed eight people with a car bomb. He then went to the island of Utoya, where Social Democratic youth were at a summer camp. There were no fewer than 69 victims.

Anders Breivik is currently serving a 21-year sentence. This may be extended if he is still considered a threat.
