This form of care is intended to be able to provide foreigners who will not receive a residence permit. This way a place to sleep is realized, you get food and drink there and a shower is possible, hence the name bed bath bread.

‘They should have already left’

According to our municipality, it is the “minimal form of reception to support exhausted asylum seekers who are no longer entitled to stay in the Netherlands”. Amsterdam has facilitated this since 2019, together with some other major cities.

Minister Faber intended to stop the financing of this. Earlier she said that they “should have already left”.

There will be no option on the street

Dozens of foreigners – a group of 28 – came into protest in Amsterdam and reported that they would be on the street. The court now ruled that “the minister was not allowed to terminate the reception without further investigation into the consequences for these 28 people.”

According to the court, the minister did not look enough to see if there would be medical problems for the group. She also did not check whether there would be sufficient capacity in Ter Apel to catch this group. The minister had previously said that this group could report there.

And so – now that the pronunciation is on the table – the 28 people can just stay in the shelter in Amsterdam.

Ball with minister

The ball is now with the minister again. She has not yet responded to this statement.
