Jubilee year of Toyism inaugurated with a special painting, based on an Italian masterpiece

The Birth of Modern Venus is based on the original by Italian painter Sandro Botticelli, The Birth of Venusone of the showpieces of Renaissance art and on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Dejo and his girlfriend Clamaoing spent three months working on an alternative to the Italian masterpiece. Their copy clearly had a toyistic touch, Dejo explains. “The modern Venus represents a modern woman. In our painting she is dark, she has blond hair and she exposes herself. With this she shows: look how beautiful I am. We also want to say: whether you are white, white, black, brown or yellow: every woman should be herself and be as beautiful as she is.”
