Juan Schiaretti: the Peronist of discord

in the environment of Juan Schiarettithe blunt refusal of macrismo to put together a coalition with Peronism surprised: “Mauricio made Pichetto his vice. What is the criteria?” asks one of the most important advisors to the Cordovan governor. And he reviews a little-known anecdote: “Obviously Macri forgot that, in the house of a businessman friend here in Capital, He offered the ‘Gringo’ to be his running mate in 2019. Since he told her no, two days later she appeared with Pichetto. Four years ago yes and now no?
The debate that installed Horacio Rodriguez Larreta about whether Schiaretti and a group of non-Kirchnerist Peronists should join the assembly of Together for Change or not he put the PRO in check.
Macri himself revealed the high level of tension: “The coalition cannot be put at risk in this way eight days after the closing of alliances”, said the former president. And he completed: “There was time to do it, but improvisation is never a good way to handle it.”
Extension. For several months, different leaders of the PRO and the UCR have been visiting Schiaretti in the search of adding him. Negotiations moved fast in some meetings and bogged down at other times. That’s why, in Córdoba they believe that there is an overacting in the reactions of Macri and Patricia Bullrichby publicly exploiting the news that the governor could play inside.
“From all this confusion, it must be clarified that Schiaretti does not want to join Together for Change. What he proposes is a bigger alliance that incorporates them all”, maintains one of the shipowners. The immediate comparison is that of Santa Fe casewhere the coalition met with socialism in a space that they now call United to Change.
Schiaretti, who will leave the governorship after three terms, also felt the need to make his position clear: “It is not anyone’s ticket to anywhere. It is respecting the identity of each one and putting together a new coalition. The Front of Fronts, which I call. Identity is not lost, ”she said at a press conference.
In the environment of Cordoba they insist that, at least for now, He does not see himself anywhere other than as a candidate for president. They rule out that he can accompany Larreta as his vice. “Even if he loses, he does business, because he can join the winner’s team from another place. Why would he want to stay attached to a Juntos list? ”, Analyzes a government official from him.
Despite the refusal of a sector of the PRO, Larretism and radicalism continue to work for the unity front. On Wednesday the 7th, the entourage that had traveled to Córdoba to oil the pact returned to the Capital with a draft: a kind of programmatic agreement that they want to publish together to put pressure on Macri and Bullrich, days before the alliance registration period expires, which will happen on June 14. They even venture that there could be a photo with leaders of both spaces.
“Part of the PRO, radicalism and the Civic Coalition agree to incorporate it. A couple of leaders cannot block this”, protests a Cordovan who monitors the reactions of national leaders minute by minute.
On the other hand, they believe that Larreta is outlining space in his eagerness to cut the distance that Bullrich takes away from him in Córdoba, according to the polls. “We cannot be a rally,” protested the president of the PRO, Federico Angelini. The anger is that, according to what they say, they found out through the media about the army in which the Buenos Aires head of government worked.
Local factor. Angelini adds another question: “If we continue in a federal party, we should consult with the leaders of the provinces that are most affected by the decision,” he said. The thing is On June 25 there are elections in Córdoba and Martín Llaryora, Schiaretti’s candidate, faces Luis Juez, from Together for Change. Everything would be mixed up.

“By looking at what is happening in Córdoba, they are losing sight of the province of Buenos Aires,” says a radical leader who is involved in the agreement. “You can incorporate José Luis Espert and Florencio Randazzo, who they have more than 10 points between them. They are votes that can make you win an election against the Frente de Todos ”, she speculates.
The Espert case is another of those that generated conflict. For this reason, on Wednesday the 7th, Gerardo Morales, Maximiliano Ferraro and Pichetto made a statement pointing to the PRO to define itself. Finally, a day later, Larreta welcomed the economist via Twitter: “Let’s expand by adding new ideas and good people.”
“Patricia did not want Espert inside because it would steal votes,” says a larretista. “But in this analysis it is not understood why they reject Schiaretti: I don’t know if there are egos or personal interests that prevent us from moving forward,” he claims.
No one moves from their position. Larreta and Morales continue with the expansion project, while Macri and Bullrich reject it outright. Someone will have to give in.

Seita, consultant in common

There is a name in common in the coalition that is being prepared in Córdoba and in the Federal Capital: Guillermo Seita. The political consultant, a historical ally of Governor Juan Schiaretti, also works with Buenos Aires mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larreta. He was key in the rapprochement, beyond the fact that when he is consulted he prefers not to refer to the matter: “I’m not talking about that”, he excuses himself before the NEWS call.
Seita was the ideologue of the national launch of Schiaretti, who after his third term in Córdoba was left without a possible re-election. They hunted down the governors of the productive provinces, but many of them are busy keeping things in order on their small pay. That’s why the strategy changed during the march: They raised a front of fronts with Together for Change. Less than a week remains for the closing of alliances, there they will know if the new plan worked.
