JPMorgan also wants to go to Germany with its online bank ‘Chase’

DÜSSELDORF (dpa-AFX) – The largest US money house JPMorgan (JPMorgan ChaseCo) wants to win private customers with its online bank “Chase” in Germany and other EU countries. “It was always clear to us that we not only want to introduce ‘Chase’ in Great Britain, but also in Germany and other European countries,” JPMorgan boss Jamie Dimon told the “Handelsblatt” (Friday, online). According to Dimon, however, it has not yet been finally decided when the bank will start in which country. So far, “Chase” is only active in Great Britain.

According to the manager, however, the bank has already hired many people in Berlin. “Our digital private customer business in the EU is operated from there.” Overall, JPMorgan has the goal of becoming one of the three largest banks in Germany, said Dimon. The Frankfurt-based European subsidiary of JPMorgan is currently in 5th place with total assets of EUR 436 billion.

In the USA, JPMorgan took over the First Republic Bank in the course of the local banking crisis in the spring. The institute does not want to buy any other troubled financial institutions. “I don’t think that will be necessary, and I also don’t think that we would be the right bank for it,” said Dimon in the “Handelsblatt”. The US government doesn’t want banks to get too big./stw/ben/ngu
