Jovic the solver, enters, scores and wins: this is Pioli’s weapon

Four goals out of 5 as a substitute. In Europe only Stuani did better. The coach believes in it: “he can become Milan’s center forward…”

Francesco Pietrella

Professional solver. Luka Jovic has thrown off the role of the shadowy striker by embracing his destiny as a “decisive man”. The first thanks goes to Stefano Pioli, saved by the Serbian on several occasions during the season: the last in Frosinone, after Udine, Salerno, Cagliari and again Frosinone, punished at San Siro at the beginning of December with a goal from a half overhead kick. Jovic did what the coach asked of him: he entered on tiptoe, raised his gaze and aimed at the area, placing himself in the centre. At the first useful opportunity he took advantage of a rebound and scored on Turati. Fifth goal in Serie A, seventh of the season. The autumn-winter collection changed his life: the first ring was on 2 December, the last – at least so far – on 3 February. Solver. Here is his new role.

continuity

We always talk about him in the same way: “If it were more continuous…”. “If he could do well for more than three games…”. The data from the last period have swept away the first word: seven goals in the last nine matches between Serie A and the Italian Cup, where he knocked out Cagliari with a brace. Pioli reiterated that in training he “spurs him a lot”, prodding him when he needs it. “He can be Milan’s center forward. He has physique, technique and quality. I insist.” And he does well. Jovic took center stage by saving the match in the last two away matches. His story changed at the end of October, with the full post hit in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund. A sort of “what if”. A message to the fans and to his great “ego”, battered by two dull months lived in the shadows: “If I get going, I know what I can do”. Time has proved him right.

His race is a praise to utilitarianism. Jovic made himself useful with minimal effort, giving the fans three points with just five touches. A couple in the middle, three on the edge and one in the area, the decisive one. A kind of “come, see, come”. He comes in, scores and gets the three points. It took him ten minutes to sign. Four out of 5 goals came from the bench. In Europe only Stuani did better, the Girona striker revelation (5). After all, Frosinone brings him luck: his rebirth began with a goal against the yellow and blues. Solver. By now Luka knows it too.
